We are always ready to help!

Seattle (August 22, 2011)

The human life is very precious and unpredictable. One misstep, wrong turn or a careless tumble might cause horrific injuries and completely change one’s life.

This is exactly what happened to Michael-Ryan Pattison in 2005 when he traveled to Lake Chelan and dove into the water breaking his neck and becoming quadriplegic. Even though the doctors said that Michael-Ryan won’t be able to move any parts of his body, he never gave up and always trusted in the ability to achieve significant improvements in his health. MR’s family and friends were always near supporting him in every way, along with Dr. John McDonald who previously worked with Christopher Reeves on his rehabilitation program.

Having realized that there are a lot of people with similar health conditions in the United States of America, Michael-Ryan and his parents established the Michael-Ryan Pattison Foundation. The MRP Foundation’s goal is, “to strengthen the mind, body and spirit or those living with spinal cord injuries through specialized therapies that create new hope and opportunity.” The primary goal for the Foundation is to raise money to build a rehabilitation facility that can assist others with similar spinal cord injuries and paralysis get help without any insurance coverage.

GIS International Group offered to create 3D renderings of this rehabilitation center. GIS Virtual is a part of the GIS International Group and is a visualization branch that created the concept of the exterior for the center.

GIS Victual’s designers were faced with the task to create an infrastructure for the center that will be wheelchair accessible. The renderings were based on the two concepts: An Urban version as well as Michael-Ryan’s vision ‘The Garden of Eden’.

For the Urban version, Michael Rodionov, our lead senior designer, created a multilevel, metal panel structure with huge windows facing the park that is located right by the center. The park is designed for families to come visit. The territory of the rehab center includes a small pond that is fenced for the safety of the patients. On the roof of the building there is a helicopter pad for emergencies.

In the Garden of Eden visualization the center is designed in the spa or a hotel feel with coffee shops and an open pool. The way to get to the pool from the building is via the foyer of the center that opens up directly to it. The surrounding areas are filled with flower pots, alleys, and barbeques for families to spend time with each other. This vision was to depict the idea of the comforts and activities of a family oriented resort in the U.S.

In both designs, there are wide alleys without any steps or changes in the elevation. The surfaces are smooth to make sure the wheelchairs do not slip and slide. The same surfaces are displayed in the park areas.

At this point in the process, GIS Virtual was only requested to make the exterior designs for the center; however we hope to do all in interiors in the future.

GIS Virtual hopes to have succeeded in creating the vision for the rehabilitation center that the MRP Foundation is striving to build.
